Leadership and History

KTSC was created in August, 2002 by merging the marketing, sales and support efforts of the Greater Knoxville Sports Corporation (GKSC) and the Knox County Tourist Commission (KCTC), which governed the Knoxville Convention & Visitors Bureau (KCVB).

The GKSC began in 1991 as a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization. The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Board of Directors signed an exclusive contract with GKSC in 1997 to develop, market and operate the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville.

KCVB was created in 1979 by the state to market Knox County and recruit conventions, motor coach groups and leisure travelers to the area. It has maintained a strong presence by meeting the needs of tourists through visitor center locations all over the city of Knoxville.
