Hemal Tailor - Knox County Government

Even as a young person, Hemal Tailor and her family have owned many different hotels—from small independent properties to those of international chains. Over the years she and her family have performed every single function at the hotels from construction management to cleaning rooms, checking in guests, to marketing and sales. The locations of the hotels she has owned vary from resort destinations like Townsend in the Great Smoky Mountains, to college towns like Toomers Corner in Auburn, Alabama.

Hemal’s practical knowledge of meeting payrolls, maintaining compliance with franchise agreements and managing hotel budgets comes concurrent with her public service as a Senior Director for Knox County Government. Currently she supervisors the departments of Senior Services and Veteran’s Services. She also oversees all special events for the Mayor’s office. Ms. Tailor is actively involved in community activities from volunteering at the Hindu Community Center to serving on the boards of Williams Creek Golf Course, John T O’Connor, Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad, East TN Human Resource Agency and East TN Development District.

Ms. Tailor is a graduate of the University of Tennessee where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. She also holds a Master’s of Public Administration with a concentration in government. Ms. Tailor is a regular on WBIR as part of their morning culinary program, having participated in the Culinary Arts Program at Nashville Tech.
