Alex Haley Square is a part of Morningside Park in east Knoxville. The park is renown across the United States for having the only 12 foot high bronze statue of author and Pulitzer prize winner Alex Haley. Haley is best known for his book "Roots," in which he traced his origins back to Africa. His book was made into an acclaimed television mini-series.
Featuring the history of African Americans in Knoxville and East Tennessee from the late 1800's to the present through photographs, newspapers, biographies, audio and video recordings, books and artwork. Admission is free.

Nestled in the center of Downtown Knoxville's government district, Blount Mansion offers history that is hard to miss. Here, among the towers of glass, steel and brick, sits a house - small by today's standards, but a mansion on the Tennessee frontier. Known by the Cherokee Indians as "the house with many eyes," Blount Mansion has watched American history parade through its rooms and on the streets outside. Step inside and experience "The Birthplace of Tennessee." Blount Mansion also features a modern Visitors Center with a gift shop, historical exhibits, and an art gallery featuring some of Eastern Tennessee's finest artists.

The Memorial is a public plaza with a formal arrangement of granite pillars bearing the names of 6,172 fallen heroes from 35 East Tennessee counties who died in military service during named conflicts since World War I. It was dedicated and officially unveiled November 15, 2008.
The home of James White, founder of Knoxville, who settled here on a 1,000-acre grant. His first home, furnished with original tools and artifacts for the period, gives a glimpse into the daily existence of early settlers to this region.

Marble Springs is operated by the Gov. John Sevier Memorial Association (GJSMA), a non-profit group dedicated to preserving the memory of John Sevier and his way of life.
This Victorian cemetery, established in 1850, lets you take a walk through Knoxville's history. The marble city memorializes many of the political figures that shaped the city and region.
Completed in 1797 for Col. Francis A. Ramsey, a pioneer settler of Knoxville. Built of local limestone and marble, this Georgian-style home is furnished with period antiques reflecting the life of Ramsey and his family. With over 100 acres, the site hosts picnic areas and heirloom gardens for guests to visit. Location rentals are also available for any event you can imagine. This beautiful property is ideal for weddings and receptions, reunions, garden parties, meetings, seminars and lectures, and our guided tours can accommodate both small and large groups.
