Rough economy not shaking Knoxville's FAM opportunity

Despite a shaken economy and downturn in overall spending, Knoxville’s marketing efforts still move forward. The city will play host to an elite group of meeting planners who are interested in bringing business to the area.   Coming from all across the country, these planners will visit Knoxville for a football-themed familiarization tour (FAM) hosted by the Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation (KTSC) on November 6-9.

The FAM will give meeting planners an opportunity to tour the city and experience Knoxville’s beauty first-hand, in hopes of booking a possible future convention or meeting in the area. This visit will be paired with the tradition of University of Tennessee football.

The weekend-long tour will begin with an opening reception and tour of the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Thursday evening and close with a “Recovery Breakfast” on Sunday morning at the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

Meeting planners attending the FAM will tour attractions, restaurants, downtown properties and the Knoxville Convention Center. Attendees will also participate in a “railgate,” a tailgate on the Three Rivers Rambler train and then attend the University of Tennessee homecoming football game.
