February’s Uniquely Fridays at the Knoxville Visitor Center
• WHAT: Uniquely Friday, a program highlighting local artists & talent
• WHEN & WHO:
o February 6 – Knoxville Writers Guild members, presenting their book, Outscape: Writings on Fences and Frontiers, an anthology that explores the risks and rewards of challenging limitations or setting limits. Approximately 20 local poets and writers, including Marilyn Kallet, Linda Marion, Jack Renfro and Jeanne MacDonald, will read from and autograph books and discuss their work.
*First Friday is also on February 6. Enjoy live music from 6-8 p.m. with Mister Baby, featuring Ferd Moyce of the Hackensaw Boys, and specials including gourmet hot chocolate and locally made Valentine’s Day gift ideas.
o February 13 – Pat Bing – Appalachian Arts & Crafts Center. A member of the Foothills Craft Guild & the Clinch Valley Hand Weavers Guild, Bing will demonstrate her weaving skills.
o February 20 – Word Players – Musical Preview of Cotton Patch Gospel. This musical brings to life more than 15 colorful characters to tell the story of the life of Jesus Christ. The WordPlayers will present this musical by Tom Key, Russell Treyz and Harry Chapin in March at The WordPlayers’ Theatre. *Special time: 12:30-2 p.m.
o February 27 – Darlene Bakos – Quilting Demo. Bakos owns and operates Gingersnap Quilts, specializing in creating traditional and contemporary quilts. She creates one-of-a-kind t-shirt quilts, photograph quilts, and traditional quilt customized for any bed size. Bakos teaches classes locally on machine and hand piecing and is an award-winning quilter on a local and international level. View her work at www.GingersnapQuilts.blogspot.com.
