Chrysler Jeep Boomsday Festival named a "Top 20 Event"

The Chrysler Jeep Boomsday Festival has been named one of Southeast Tourism Society’s (STS) Top 20 Events for the month of September 2009.

2009 will mark the 22nd year for the Boomsday Festival, the event that brought a record-breaking number of 405,000 spectators to Knoxville’s Volunteer Landing and Neyland Drive in 2008 for the nation’s largest Labor Day weekend fireworks display. The Boomsday Festival also received this award in 2006 and 2007.

“The Boomsday Festival has really come a long way since its start in the late ’80’s. We are thrilled that the event draws such a large number of people to downtown Knoxville, and we’re excited that Boomsday has once again been recognized for the magnificent event that it is,” said Gloria Ray, Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation (KTSC) president and CEO.

According to William T. Hardman, President and CEO of STS, the “Top 20 Events” publication receives extensive exposure in print media, web, television and radio in the United States and Canada with more than 800 of these outlets receiving “Top 20” listings. Additionally, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution prints the “Top 20 Events” as a regular quarterly feature of its travel section, and the events have recently been featured on the New Orleans-based radio show “Travel Talk Radio.”

Founded in 1983, the STS promotes leisure travel, sustainable tourism and the importance of the travel industry in 12 Southeastern states. Members represent many facets of the travel industry and work cooperatively to strengthen the region as a travel destination.
