Downtown Dining Guide wins award

The Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation (KTSC) won second place in the Best Recreation/Travel Map category in the 2008 Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS) Map Design Competition for its Downtown Dining Guide map.

The Downtown Dining Guide map was created by John R. Innes with User Friendly Maps. The circular map features an information “racetrack” called the “MapWrapTM,” a patent-pending format that is proprietary to the company. The map is available online at userfriendlymaps.com.

Another User Friendly Maps creation, the Henderson NV Parks & Recreation Map, won third place in the same category. Other top winners include the Central Intelligence Agency Cartography Center, National Geographic Maps, Beartooth Publishing and Back Road Map Books.

The CaGIS Map Design Competition is a national map design competition. The 2008 jury included representatives from the Smithsonian Institution, National Park Service, Department of State and Washington D.C. area map representatives.
