Thousands of youth travel to East Tennessee for the 2007 Smoky Mountain “Winterfest”

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – More than 25 years ago, two youth groups traveled to the Smoky Mountains for a weekend full of fun and discipleship. Now, that tradition has exploded as more than 15,000 participants are expected as the 2007 Church of God International Smoky Mountain “Winterfest” comes to Knoxville March 9-11.
“Winterfest” will bring youth group members, youth ministers and chaperones from more than 20 states to Thompson-Boling Arena on the University of Tennessee campus. Activities include guest speakers, contemporary concerts and worship services.
According to the event’s website, some of the featured performers and speakers for the 2007 “Winterfest” include: Israel Houghton, Chris Hill, Reggie Dabbs, The Crabb Family, In Stereo, Julian Drive, Tommy Bates and many more.
“Winterfest” moved from the Smoky Mountains to Knoxville in 2000 and has come to be known for its speakers and worship experiences.
Knoxville is scheduled to host the event through 2008. Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation officials estimate that the 2007 “Winterfest” will have a local economic impact of approximately $16.2 million.
