Governor’s Conference on Tourism moves to Knoxville
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – More than 400 tourism professionals from across the state, Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen and Tennessee Department of Tourist Development Commissioner Susan Whitaker will come to Knoxville for the Governor’s Conference on Tourism September 20-22 at the Knoxville Convention Center.
Knoxville has not played host to this event in over 10 years, as the event has been held in Nashville in recent years. The event, themed “Unique Tourism,” is three days of educational seminars, networking opportunities and insight into Unique Tourism as offered by the State of Tennessee.
The conference features an Opening Night Reception sponsored by the Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation (KTSC) at the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, the State of the Industry Address by Commissioner Whitaker and Governor Bredesen’s Luncheon.
“We couldn’t be more honored to host the Governor’s Conference on Tourism right here in Knoxville. This event was last held in the city in the early 90s, so we are ready to bring all of the tourism professionals back to Knoxville to share their experiences and learn more about the industry,” said Gloria Ray, President and CEO of the KTSC.
The keynote speaker for this year’s conference is Roy Williams, nick-named the “Wizard of Ads” for his expertise in advertising and marketing. He is known worldwide for his trilogy of advertising books, the Wizard of Ads, Secret Formulas of the Wizard of Ads and Magical World of the Wizard of Ads, which have all been on best-seller lists including the New York Times. “This is a terrific opportunity for the Tennessee tourism industry to learn from one of the greatest advertising/marketing minds in America,” said Whitaker.
