Winners of Quilt-Themed Window Dressing Contest announced
Knoxville will host more than 10,000 quilting enthusiasts for the American Quilter’s Society (AQS) International Quilt Expo July 22-25, 2009. As part of the Expo, area merchants were invited to participate in the AQS Window Dressing Contest, which now boasts beautiful quilt displays in efforts to make Quilt Expo attendees feel welcome in Knoxville.
Downtown Knoxville’s Mast General Store, located at 402 S. Gay St., has been named the first place winner of the contest, while Abode in the Market Square District, located at 15 Market Square, has been named runner-up.
An awards ceremony for the contest winners will take place on Wednesday, July 22 at 9 a.m. at the Knoxville Convention Center (KCC) following the official event ribbon-cutting ceremony, which will begin at 8:45 a.m. Winners will receive official contest ribbons and plaques to acknowledge their creative displays.
Nineteen locations in Knoxville participated in the contest, which were judged by a panel of various community members. The window displays will remain through the end of July.
Maps of the participating locations may be picked up at the KCC at Knoxville Information booths during the AQS International Quilt Expo or at the Knoxville Visitor Center, located at 301 S. Gay Street.
