AQS International Quilt Expo to return to Knoxville in 2012

On behalf of the Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation (KTSC), Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale announced today during the 2009 American Quilter’s Society (AQS) International Quilt Expo’s Ribbon Cutting that Knoxville will continue to serve as the Expo’s host city through 2012.

“We are thrilled that AQS has extended its contract through 2012 as this Expo creates a notable economic boost for our community,” said Kim Paul, KTSC Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing.

In February of 2008, KTSC, Knoxville Convention Center (KCC), City of Knoxville and Knox County Government jointly announced that AQS had signed a contract to bring its International Expo to Knoxville in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

The Expo will bring approximately 10,000+ visitors to Knoxville over the course of the four-day event which equates to representatives from more than 45 states and 15 countries. Additionally, KTSC officials project the Expo will produce an economic impact of approximately $14.4+ million per year.

This morning, Meredith Schroeder (AQS President), Mary Bogert (KCC General Manager), Mayor Bill Haslam, Mayor Mike Ragsdale and Paul officially opened the 2009 Expo with a ribbon cutting outside the KCC’s exhibit hall. The 2009 Expo will be held at the KCC through July 25.
