Knoxville to play "host" to parasites

The American Society of Parasitologists (ASP) will host its 84th annual meeting August 14-17 at the Crowne Plaza hotel in downtown Knoxville. The ASP is a diverse group of more than 1,500 scientists from industry, government, and academia who are interested in the study and teaching of Parasitology.

Parasitology is the study of parasites, their hosts and the relationship between them. This year’s meeting is highly anticipated by members of the ASP. Last year’s meeting was attended by more than 200 parasitologists from all regions in the United States, plus Mexico and Canada.

Members will attend and participate in a scientific program that includes informative lectures and oral presentations. The annual meeting will also include an auction, as well as a time of socializing with other parasitologists and graduate student associates dedicated to the field.

The Henry Baldwin Ward Medal will be presented to a member in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of Parasitology as well as the Stoll-Stunkard award, given to a nominee for his or her prominence in basic research that has enhanced the investigation of parasites.
