Harley Owner’s Group brings motorcycle rally to Knoxville
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Today, during a press conference at Chilhowee Park, officials with the Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation (KTSC), the City of Knoxville, Knox County and special guests unveiled details of the 2007 National Harley Owner’s Group (HOG) 24th Annual Rally.
“We’re delighted that the Harley Owners Group has selected Knoxville as the site of its 2007 National HOG Rally, “ said Bill Haslam, City of Knoxville Mayor. “Harley Riders come from all walks of life and are united by their passion for riding the quintessential American machine. We’re looking forward to welcoming them to town next August.”
The 2007 National HOG “Down Home” 24th Annual Rally will take place August 23-25 at Chilhowee Park. “Knoxville will see a substantial impact from the HOG Rally next summer. We are expecting more than 15,000 attendees and an economic impact of $16,249,500,” said Gloria Ray, President and CEO of KTSC.
HOG Members should be prepared to arrive early and stay late to experience all of the scenery and unique events over the weekend, said Joe Dowd, manager of the HOG Event Team. “Steeped in Americana and Smoky Mountain lore, Knoxville and the Great Smoky Mountains offer some of the best motorcycle riding in the country,” said Dowd.
The national HOG rally will feature events mostly for registered HOG member attendees only, but there will still be plenty of fun and southern hospitality surrounding the weekend. The local community is invited to attend the early bird party on Thursday, August 23 at the Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson & Buell dealership in Maryville and take part in free demo rides and parties taking place over the weekend.
Additionally, on Sunday, Aug. 26, the Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson & Buell dealership will attempt to break its Guinness World Record Burn Out with more than 213 motorcycles doing simultaneous burn outs at the dealership.
Harley-Davidson established the Harley Owners Group in 1983 in response to a growing desire by Harley riders for an organized way to share their passion and show their pride. HOG currently has more than one million members and over 1,400 chapters worldwide, making it the largest factory-sponsored motorcycle organization in the world.
