Navy Fitness Challenge Coming to Knoxville
The United States Navy will bring a Fitness Challenge to Knoxville during Knoxville Navy Week, September 1-7.
This is an outstanding opportunity for civilians who always wondered how they measure up to military physical standards to finally put themselves to the test. Athletes who are looking for something different from the traditional triathlon or marathon will enjoy this challenging workout.
The Fitness Challenge is identical to the Navy Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) that sailors run twice a year. It consists of a sit-and-reach, sit-ups, push-ups and a 1.5-mile run or 500-yard swim.
This FREE event will be held at the Cansler YMCA at 616 Jessamine Street on two evenings – Wednesday, Sept. 2 and Thursday, Sept. 3, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The challenge is open to both YMCA members and non-members of any age. Those interested may choose either night to participate.
For more information or to sign up for the Navy Fitness Challenge, contact the YMCA Wellness Director Erin Merten at (865) 522-9622 or Navy Lieutenant George Dickens at (757) 274-9988.
Knoxville is one of only 22 cities selected to host a Navy Week in 2009. For information on more Knoxville Navy Week activities, visit www.navyweek.org or contact Lieutenant Commander Kevin West at (423) 320-3489.
