Get a Move On! National Street Rod Association (NSRA) rolls into town
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – More than 3,400 street rods are expected to make a pit stop in Knoxville as the 33rd annual NSRA Street Rod Nationals South comes to town May 4-6 at Chilhowee Park.
A street rod is defined as a modernized vintage automobile that must have been manufactured prior to 1949. The event combines a car show with more than 130 commercial exhibits, a vintage car swap meet, arts and crafts, food, games and live entertainment for an entertaining experience for the whole family. An anticipated crowd of more than 20,000 is expected to accompany the painted and chromed beauties to the event’s headquarters.
“It’s the region’s largest and most spectacular street rod show every year, and we are proud to bring the show to Knoxville for the 24th year in a row,” said Jerry Kennedy, Event Director for the NSRA.
The street rods in attendance are expected to range in value from $8,000 to $100,000 with an average value of $28,000 per vehicle. Many include modern chassis features like four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, tilt steering and exotic stereo systems.
More than $100,000 in “Super Prize” giveaways will be presented to participants throughout the weekend as the NSRA Super Prize program returns this year. Additionally, a brand new 2007 Chevrolet “HHR” will be given away, compliments of NSRA.
On Sunday, attendees may also enjoy a “Circle of Winners,” where the award-winners of the event will place their street rods on display. An awards ceremony will follow at an outdoor stage on the Chilhowee Park grounds.
All activities during the show are open to the public. Show hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are on sale only at the Chilhowee Park gates during the event, and admission is $12 per adult, $3 per child (6-12 years). Children under five are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
With more than 53,000 members worldwide, the NSRA Street Rod Nationals South is the largest street rod sport sanctioning organization in the world.
The KTSC projects that the NSRA Street Rod Nationals South will have a local economic impact of $21,666,000.
