Embroiderers set to discover the treasures of Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Knoxville will welcome more than 200 members of the Embroiders’ Guild of America, Inc. (EGA) for the Annual Summer Tennessee Valley Regional Meeting June 21-24 at the Hilton Knoxville.
This year, attendees will embark on a voyage to “Discover Needlework Treasures” as they acquire new skills in the art of embroidery. The meeting features 13 possible classes from which to choose, each one focusing on a different technique. Attendees will have the opportunity to use their own ideas in combination with an instructor’s guidance to create a variety of pieces.
The central theme for this year’s meeting is “Discover the Treasures of Knoxville,” and participants are encouraged to spend a few extra days touring the Knoxville area.
“This year’s meeting promises to be a great chance to try something new, reunite with old friends, and enjoy the Knoxville area,” said Sandy Mcilrath, EGA Tennessee Valley Regional Director.
This weekend’s event features activities from learning to use accent heading for embellishing fashion items to creating the illusion of starlight by using metallic threads. The meeting will close with a reception followed by a banquet at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.
The EGA is a non-profit organization that promotes the study and preservation of the art of needlework. Consisting of 13 regions and 340 chapters across the U.S. and Canada, membership is open to anyone interested in embroidery. For more information on EGA, visit www.egausa.org.
