Knoxville named one of the top 10 places to live and boat in country
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – With the Tennessee River claiming the title of fifth-largest river system in the United States, it comes as no surprise that BoatingLife magazine named Knoxville, Tenn. one of the top 10 best places to live and boat in the country.
The list was narrowed down based on an assortment of features each city has to offer boaters.
“We investigated boating communities throughout the country, looking for the variety of boating opportunities, boat-friendly regulations, water access, availability of waterfront homes, health of the local economy and overall lifestyle for boaters,” said Mike Tyler, author of the article.
On a scale of one to five, Knoxville’s scorecard boasted four stars for waterfront availability, five stars for ease for boaters, five stars for having strong boat-related businesses in the area and four stars based on the number of good boating days characteristic of the community.
The Tennessee River system is a water paradise for boaters of all kinds and offers area residents and visitors unsurpassed boating opportunities. All types of watercraft, from canoes to cruisers, can be seen on the water throughout the boating season. For this reason, it’s not hard to figure out why boat manufacturers such as Sea Ray, Bayliner, MasterCraft, and Skier’s Choice set up shop in or near Knoxville.
The river’s many reservoirs and lakes have an impressive water surface of more than 1,000 miles surrounded by 11,000 more miles of shoreline, ideal for the development of waterfront institutions. Knoxville’s waterfront communities offer residents the privacy and peacefulness of waterfront living with all the conveniences of city accommodations.
One of the most unique features available to boaters in the Knoxville area is the “Vol Navy,” a Tennessee tradition in which hundreds of boats dock at Volunteer Landing to form a giant floating tailgate party at the University of Tennessee home football games. Knoxville has one of the few universities in the country with a stadium next to a large body of water and that allows such a celebration.
