Bliss Home will feature Joe Letitia for January First Friday. A reception will be held at Bliss Home, 29 Market Square, from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, January 6.
From a young age Letitia found himself surrounded by beautiful art. Born on Christmas day, Letitia grew up in Plainville, CT in a home nestled quietly in an abundance of forest. Letitia went to art school at the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University, where he found his amazing talent and love for art. He would later go on to receive his MFA from Yale University School of Art in 1989.
“I [had] worked and lived as an artist in New York City for seven years. During this period of time,I had five solo exhibitions in N.Y.C. and have worked as an assistant for the artist Chuck Close as well as the sculptor / photographer, Sandy Skogland.”
Letitia has received several awards and grants to pursue his work, most notably the Biennial Grant from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation. He has participated in several solo exhibits in New York, Chicago and Boston as well as other locations around the U.S. and Europe. Most recently Letitia was featured in an exhibit at the Clayton Art Center at Maryville and can currently be seen in New York at Kathleen Cullen.( http://www.kathleencullenfinearts.com/you_would.html)
Some of Letitia’s pieces have also been in collections displayed at Rutgers University; Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum; the Museum of Modern Art, Printmaking Archives, New York; and the Ewing Gallery at the University of Tennessee.
Letitia moved to Knoxville in 1997 after participating in the visiting artist residency program at the University of Tennessee and has been teaching at the Webb School of Knoxville since 2002. A resident of south Knoxville with his wife and three children, Letitia continues to make art.
His art will be featured beginning January 6 and remain through the month.
