KTSC named AAU's 'Organization of the Year'
The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) has named the Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation (KTSC) its 2007 recipient of the prestigious “Organization of the Year” award. According to the AAU, the “Organization of the Year” award was established to honor the outstanding community based adult and youth recreation and amateur sports organizations.
This award comes on the heels of the highly successful 2007 AAU Junior Olympic Games which were held in Knoxville July 25-August 4, 2007, received an attendance of approximately 17,000 athletes and coaches, and brought an estimated $30.7 million of economic impact into the Knoxville/Knox County community.
“Of all sports councils and commissions throughout the country, Knoxville’s own KTSC was chosen to receive this award,” said Mary Miltenberger, KTSC’s Vice President of Client Services and 2007 AAU Junior Olympic Games Commissioner. “This award is a true tribute to the hard work of the KTSC staff, support of the KTSC Board of Directors and Knoxville as a community,” said Miltenberger.
Past recipients of the “Organization of the Year” award include organizations such as the City of San Diego Parks & Recreation, Salt Lake City Parks & Recreation, Atlanta Parks & Recreation, Police Athletics of New York, NY, and the Metro Detroit Sports Commission.
Highly due to the efforts of the KTSC, Knoxville/Knox County has achieved a reputation as being a premier host community of amateur athletic competitions. Since 1968, the community has played host to the AAU Junior Olympic Games six times.
