Half a million German citizens learn about Knoxville attractions
January 9, 2008 – KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – On December 26, 2007, seven Knoxville attractions were brought into the international spotlight as they were featured on a 45-minute travel documentary that was viewed by 500,000 German citizens.
The documentary titled, “All aboard! Tennessee unter Dampf,” was broadcast on Bahn TV, a television network owned by the German Railroad System, and was filmed in Knoxville in October 2007.
While the documentary mainly focused on railroad tourist attractions in East Tennessee, such as Knoxville’s Three Rivers Rambler, the program also spotlighted other attractions such as the Sunsphere, the University of Tennessee, Blount Mansion, the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, the Knoxville Visitor Center and WDVX-radio.
Through collaborative efforts between the Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation, the German branch of the State of Tennessee’s Department of Tourist Development, and Bahn TV, the travel documentary was arranged. Railroad attractions in Chattanooga, Etowah, and Pigeon Forge, were also featured.
