Knoxville residents may participate in 30 free health screenings

For the first time ever, the annual BlueCross Healthy Living Expo will open its doors to the public for free. The Expo, set to take place Jan. 26-27 at the Knoxville Convention Center, will showcase companies representing healthcare, nutrition, fitness, natural health and living “green” (eco-friendly).

Expo attendees may participate in activities, watch demonstrations, sample healthy foods, gather information and participate in more than 30 free health screenings.

Highlights of the event include a live taping of “The Dr. Bob Show,” with local physician and personality, Dr. Robert Overholt and a visit from $100,000 winner, Brian Starkey, from NBC’s reality hit show, “The Biggest Loser.”

The Healthy Living Expo began in 2005 after local event promoter Karen Ray committed to a healthy lifestyle and lost 86 pounds.  Ray’s goal is to encourage others to engage in creating an active, healthy and fulfilling life.

“Building on last year’s success with thousands of visitors, we anticipate greater attendance with free admission.  Visitors can have a fun, interactive experience and leave with increased knowledge on how to live a healthier life,” said Ray.

Event hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
