The Womens Basketball Hall of Fame is an international museum dedicated to preserving the history of womens basketball. A non-profit organization, managed by the Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation, the WBHOF is the only facility of its kind dedicated to all levels of women's basketball in the world. The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame opened in June 1999 in Knoxville, Tennessee. With the 2012 Induction, the WBHOF will celebrate its 14th Anniversary and add six new members, bringing the total number of inductees to 127.
The outside of the striking 32,000 square foot Hall of Fame is encompassed by two amazing basketballs. The world's largest basketball is located on the north end of the Hall, weighing 10 tons and sitting on top of a glass staircase that resembles a basketball net. A brick courtyard, shaped like a basketball, is located on the southern end of the facility with many of the bricks engraved to honor guests, inductees, and a host of others who have chosen to leave their legacy at the Hall of Fame. Inside, the Hall is a bright fun-filled facility anchored with a 17-foot bronze sculpture by California artist Elizabeth McGueen, that exemplifies the Halls mission to honor the past, celebrate the present and promote the future†of womens basketball. The Hall is filled with multimedia presentations and numerous basketball artifacts, photographs, scrapbooks, medals, trophies and uniforms that bring the history of womens basketball to life. From the ball courts, the new virtual exhibit, to the Modern Locker Room where you can watch a halftime chat from Hall of Fame coaches, the WBHOF has something for everyone.
In addition to preserving the history of the game, the Womens Basketball Hall of Fame is also the perfect location for special events, proms, wedding receptions, corporate meetings, birthday parties, and reunions, to name a few. The WBHOF can accommodate groups from 10-1500, with a variety of formal to casual areas for event rentals.
