The University of Tennessee is one of 17 universities nationwide with its own professional theatre associated with the League of Resident Theatres. The Clarence Brown Theatre Company is a LORT D company produced by the university's Department of Theatre and is fully integrated into its academic curriculum. The Theatre, built in 1970 and dedicated to Clarence Brown, a University of Tennessee alumnus and distinguished film director, is a 576-seat proscenium theatre that presents a wide variety of theatrical and dance performances by faculty, students, and professional guest artists.
